Calling the Race

Working with the 9News team, as I have since the 1988 presidential election, we were able to call the primary races last night in the first 40 minutes.

The campaigns and other news outlets tend to follow 9KUSA’s calls of the elections.
  • Diana DeGette (1st CD), 7:19 pm after the first data dump, she crushes the progressive challenger (71%)
  • Joe Neguse (2nd CD), 7:20 pm, the Democrats’ preferred candidate (safe seat for Democrats) (66%)
  • Jason Crow (6th CD), 7:22 pm, Democrats’ preferred candidate in a targeted House seat (Coffman) (66%)
  • Doug Lamborn (5th CD), 7:25 pm, often embattled incumbent survives another primary (52%)
  • Walker Stapleton (governor), 7:30 pm, early results confirm frontrunner wins the prize; closest competitor, Mitchell, 18 points behind Stapleton (45%)
  • Dave Young (treasurer), 7:35 pm, longtime Democratic legislator wins nomination (68%)
  • Jared Polis (governor), 7:40 pm, Polis gets to 45 percent with main competitors splitting the opposition vote receiving a quarter of the vote each – Kennedy 25%, Johnston 23%
